In 1991, Kazakhstan closed Semipalatinsk nuclear test site and voluntarily renounced the 4th largest nuclear arsenal in the world. Kazakhstan is a strong supporter of nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation. During his participation in the 2012 Nuclear Security Summit in Seoul, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev made a number of new important initiatives to promote nuclear-free world.
His Excellency Konstantin Zhigalov, Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Canada, presented the credentials to the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada at Rideau Hall on March 8, 2012.
