Astana to Host EXPO-2017

On November 22, 2012 the Bureau International des Expositions voted to select Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, as the host of EXPO-2017.

103 countries out of 161 members of the Bureau International des Expositions had given their vote to Kazakhstan.

President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev in his video address prior to the voting underlined that Kazakhstan had firmly integrated itself into international community. The country is open for investments, partners and new technologies. In its turn, EXPO will undoubtedly inspire the world to find new ways of sustainable development.

The theme of the EXPO-2017 as put forward by Kazakhstan is “Future Energy”.

In view of this President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev stated that Kazakhstan has significant traditional natural resources, including oil, gas, coal and uranium. Nonetheless, Kazakhstan is committed to open up the potential of alternative energy sources, following the path of the “green economy”.
